How to Clean Your Lingerie the Right Way

Lingerie cleaning tips

Have you ever thrown your lingerie in the washing machine? Raise your hand if you did! Guilty, right? We’ve all been there. You don’t have time to hand-wash your lingerie and so, you end up tossing them in the weekly laundry load. Wait, you need to stop doing this right now!

When you buy expensive undergarments, you want them to last. And the best way to do that is by taking proper care and cleaning them in a proper way. Here are our tips and tricks for cleaning your lingerie so that they last longer and prove to be your worthy investments.

Always hand-wash your lingerie

Do you want the quality of your favourite piece of lingerie prematurely go down? No, right? So make sure to wash them by hand. Lingerie with padded push-ups, detailed lace and supportive underwire should never be thrown in the machine. Start with separating them according to their colours. It is recommended that you wash like-coloured lingerie together and don’t mix them with other colours. Now that you have separated them, wet a laundry cleansing bar with warm water and work the lather to pre-treat any tough stains.

When it’s done, wash it by hand with a delicate detergent. Fill your sink with warm water and soak your lingerie in it for 30 minutes. Then rinse it thoroughly with cool water. In order to get rid of any excess water, fold your lingerie against a towel before laying it out to dry. Or, you can hang it and leave it to dry naturally. And remember, don’t ever put your lingerie in the dryer! Why? Because the heat will break down the spandex and elastic, making your lingerie distort sooner than it was actually meant to be.

Use lingerie bag in case of machine wash

If you are really running short on time, can’t wash your lingerie by hand and have to use a washing machine, wash on delicate cycle in cool water, never above 30°C. Make sure to hook your bra before the wash, as this will prevent them from snagging on other items. Want to protect your lingerie from ageing before their time? Use a mesh lingerie bag or mesh washing bag.

When you are using a washing machine to wash your lingerie, you should take extra care in drying them. As soon as they are out of the machine, reshape them. Rather than hanging, lay them flat on a towel to dry. Don’t ever leave your lingerie in the washing machine once the cycle has finished. Make sure to take it out right away as the alarm goes off. If you think that you will not be at home when the alarm of your washing machine will go off, don’t wash at that time.

Happy lingerie washing!
